Lucia was born in Bolzano in 1948; after earning a diploma in the Vatican Librarian School, she worked in Rome at the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche. She engaged in photography after moving to Milano in 1987. Her main research theme is the mark left by the passing of time on nature and things, fragments of life conveying an ephemeral beauty.
With Susanna Vallebona she published a photo book titled Un filo di paglia galleggia sull’acqua (A straw floating in the water). From 2005 to 2008 she worked with the Centro di Nanotecnologie of the Modena University on Immagini delle Nanoscienze a project aimed at familiarizing the general public with the Nanoworld. In 2006 he was invited by the Genova Science Festival to show the highlights of the project, subsequently published in Immagini del nanomondo viste da Lucia Covi. The show was then displayed in Modena, Torino, Paris and in the Alexandria Library.
In 2008 her photographs were on show in the Galleria Acta under the title Soglie (Thresholds).
In 2013 with Giovanna Chiti she published a book titled Parlando con voi. Incontri con fotografe italiane, Danilo Montanari Editore.
